album update #3, 457

just found out that the friend we were waiting on to send parts for the new album isn’t able to do anything because his gear is kaput (which is OK, we just want him to be able to record again and we’ll work with him at a later time–sorry, alantl!).  that means that once the mac is back, mixing will be paramount, then mastering of some sort, then, bam, new album.

Small testing of some lighting and sets in the basement. Yes, it needs more light, but it is sort of fun to put a lot of dirt on the table (don’t worry, the table came with the house and I’ve made sure that clean up will be easy).

I’ve Been Watching a Lot of Horror Movies Lately

That title’s both the truth and the title for our next album.  It’s been delayed (again) by the fact that the mac HD decided to die.  Luckily it was under warranty, so we’ll have it back soon.  Until then, Hiram’s been working on some videos (which were lost on the HD, but easily remade–Yay!), one of which will be a long-form stop animation video.  You can check out some of the models over at our flickr page.

Take care and talk to you soon.

shows (finality)

so, a decision has been reached in the house that playing out tends to kill too much time, leaving none for recording, making videos/movies, writing about music, listening to music, reading, watching movies, and generally hanging out with each other and the cats. it’s also frustrating to play to 3 people, 1 of whom cares, but only slightly. Hiram’s been doing this for a long time and thinks it’s not worth it anymore. so, Nov. 6 at the Red Room is the last Harvey Girls live show (unless there’s a special occasion or, for some reason, some huge band wants us to open for them). We hope you can make it, but if not, no worries.

We’ll be recording and putting out videos, etc., still and have about an album’s worth ready that needs some tweaking. Also at some point, we’ll get to recording the “wolf album” (one that was started in 08, but never finished for various reasons… like dead hard drives).

Thanks to all who came and watched a show. Hope to see you ’round town.

Love,
Hiram and Melissa

what the kids are into these days

Steel Harmony play a caribbean steelband version of “Transmission” by Joy Division

choral version of “Gold Heart Mountaintop” by Guided by Voices (from Germany, I think).

PS22 sings “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House.  Also, “Pictures of You” by The Cure.

Two shows worth mentioning:

9/7/09: Oregon State Fair for the KUFO Viva La Luna Showcase at the Cartoys Aftershock Stage.  7PM to 8PM.  Lots of fine folks playing all day long.

9/10/09: Free show with Slutty Hearts at The Know in PDX.  Free Show!  With the Slutty Hearts!

whatcha doin’?

recording, recording, recording, trying to figure out the new system.

a lot of real life work.

recording.  reading some.  New Thomas Frank book.  Man, I (Hiram) miss the Baffler.

Oh, and some shows coming soon.  Tell you about that soon.

it’s been kind of a bummer summer.  but the lucke family visit was great.

Anyhoo, until next time, you can watch this if you like music and this is you like music and cartoons.

p.s.: Does anyone know why Bollywood musicals from a certain period are all blown out as far as sound goes?  I love it, but it sounds like an engineering problem (or is it just an analog to digital problem?  surely not).
